I completed my first embroidery project, and it didn't take more than but a few hours! I have wanted to do it for a while but I was pretty nervous and now I don't know why because I LOVED it! I wish the color in the picture was better because the ribbon and wording is actually chocolate brown to match the fabrics.
I started with a chipboard cut-out of a bird, where the wing and heart popped out separate from each other. I knew when I picked it up in Arizona that I wanted to save it and use it with different papers, but the fabric is even more fun! After choosing my fabrics and cutting them out, I sewed the heart onto the wing, the wing onto the bird, and then began to sew the layered bird onto the tea towel. I do not know what stitch I used for the bird because I didn't look up anything until I was ready to embroider the words. (I wrote them on with a pencil). I used a "backstitch" for the words, and a "French Knot" for the dots. I pinned on the ribbon and machine stitched it on. I used a button and embroidery floss for the eye.
What I would do differently: If I use fabric again, I almost want to iron it onto the towel first with a fusible web because I think it might lay flatter and be a bit easier to work with. I would also like to try a few other stitches, so I have been looking online for those as well. If anyone has any suggestions for me, shoot me a message!
Adorable, Lori! Love the fabrics you chose! :)

It is VERY cute, Lori. For your first try and no help, I think you did a great job. It looks like that's just the way it was supposed to be - the type of stitch you used and everything. It makes me want to get started on SOMETHING - but, what it will be is a mystery to me. :)
